US Rep. Harold Dutton
Previously Aired On: April 4, 2007 - Listen to this Show!

Representative Harold Dutton of Houston chairs the House juvenile justice committee.
Representative Dutton recently supported the efforts to free Shaquanda Cotton, a Paris Texas African American teen who was sentenced to up to 7 years in a juvenile prison for pushing a teacher’s aid. Shaquanda Cotton was convicted of a felony count of shoving the teacher’s aide — who’s classified as a public servant — at Paris High School in 2005.
Representative Dutton called Cotton’s case “the poster child of everything wrong with the criminal justice system.” He will speak about this case, and the other problems facing the juvenile justice system and his attempts to resolve them.
