American Free Press Journalist

Christopher Bollyn is an investigative journalist who has written extensively on the events of September 11, 2001 in the Washington-based American Free Press. He has researched different aspects of the 9/11 attacks and uncovered facts and evidence that challenge the official version of events. Various people have tried to smear Bollyn as an “anti-Semite” in order to discredit him and diminish the significance of his work.
Recently, Mr. Bollyn was victimized by undercover police at his quiet neighborhood home for no apparent reason. Beaten, arrested, in front of his wife and child, it leads one to question: Why? In Bollyn’s own words: “At a minimum, this was a brutal demonstration of the violent militarization of U.S. law enforcement. But at its worst, this was a deliberate attempt to intimidate and harass an American reporter, who has been writing about some of the most controversial issues, today.”

In light of continuing investigations of alleged atrocities committed by US military in Iraq - everything from the first disturbing public photos of Abu Ghraib mistreatment of detainees to the alleged Haditha Massacre, to the present hearing on the rape and murder of a 14 year old Iraqi girl, this edition of The People Speak focuses in on this issue from the perspective of Advocacy Spokesperson Zahir Jan Mohamed from Amnesty International who recently met with the Iraqi Minister of Human Rights, will talk about this and other issues in the Middle East inlcuding Iraq, Israel, Afghanistan, Lebanon and much more.
BACKGROUND
ABU GHRAIB prison is located in Abu Ghraib, an Iraqi city 32 km west of Baghdad. It was built by British contractors in the 1960s and covers 280 acres (1.15 km²) with a total of 24 guard towers. It became internationally known as a place where Saddam Hussein’s government tortured and executed dissidents and, later, as the site of abuse of Iraqi suspects by the United States military…
HADITHA MASSACRE - On 19 November 2005, US Marine Lance Corporal Miguel Terrazas was killed in Haditha in a roadside bomb attack on Marines from Kilo Company, 3rd Battalion, 1st Marines. Subsequently, 24 Iraqis, including 11 women and children, were allegedly killed by 12 Marines from the unit. The US military is investigating these claims, and two captains and a lieutenant colonel have been relieved of duty. In August of 2006 a commission reviewing the killings found probable cause for charging the Marines.
ABEER QASSIM HAMZA AL-JANABI was a 14 year old Iraqi girl who lived in the village of Mahmoudiyah southeast of Baghdad. Military investigators believe that Pfc. Steven D. Green along with four other soldiers who manned a nearby military checkpoint were involved in the commission of the pre-meditated gang rape and murder of Abeer. In addition, her mother and father and 5-year old sister were also killed.
